Personal thoughts
Through most of my research Ive found that in general D.I.D is a pretty difficult if not negative condition. Sufferers tend to have come from an abusive past :(
I think my art piece will be quite serious but not too dark and depressing, I don't want to add more negativity to the subject matter. (plus the child like personality will add a bit of positivity to it)
My personal thoughts and opinions on D.I.D:
Its extremely hard to understand mental health conditions when I don't have any myself or directly know anyone with them (not D.I.D anyway). Research has given me a bit of a better understanding but the best research was speaking to Lydia. Its weird to think I went to school with her and now she has D.I.D coz she didn't back then. She's always had health issues, mostly due to her dad dying whilst we were in school, but I didn't know how serious they were.
I've found this topic extremely interesting and all my research has definitely given me a better understanding.

Flickering effect - test shots & examples
I really like this flickery, gif effect images in this music video. The images are still but they move side to side, as if they are 3D. I think this would look really good as part of our projection. I was thinking the projection could start with a full length image, moving slightly with the same effect. The person would be wearing the outfit appropriate to the personality. Then the image can cut quickly to close up or moving images of the props suitable as if disturbing the previous image- perhaps like a disturbance in the brain or a interruption? Maybe the full length image starts with the arms by the side of the body, then with the subject gripping their head as if they are having a migraine, then the cut to the props - as if they are memories?
I tried to story board some ideas relating to this glitchy idea, I didn't come up with much because I found it hard to in vision my idea.
I tried out some test shots to create a flickery effect and this is what i came up with :
I sped the images up to 20x faster and applied the 'trails' effect to one.

To do list & idea development
After a tutorial with Peter we are now considering a kind of stop motion approach, using images of the person surrounded by props/wearing certain outfits etc, rather than moving image.
I really like this idea. I'm imagining a full body image surrounded by props, moving ever so slightly to give a glitchy effect. I think this will look amazing on the shimmery material!! as if the person is glowing. For the child like personality I think we should surround them with soft animals/toys etc. i think with the glitchy effect & the soft toys/props/make up etc this will give quite a chilling image.
Now we are looking more for a model than an actor- possibly Gaya - female.
We are coming up with a lot of ideas recently but I am pretty confident in this one - especially the use of props.
To do:

To do:
MONDAY
- Buy fishing wire/ any wire we can use to suspend fabric
- More test shots - take pictures of each other with props
- Try new fabric
WEDNESDAY
- Got a room booked out for the morning
- Project images we have taken
- Decide on the scale of the construction
- Build a test model

22/11/16 Potential materials
I've been thinking about potential materials, we're going to need a semi transparent material to project on. I'm not 100% sure what colour yet, but I like the idea of black, white or grey, something plain.
I also drew up a rough sketch of what I think our construction should look like;

Inspiration
My main inspiration for this project was a piece of work by Bill Viola called The Veiling.
I think this piece perfectly represents the image I have in my head. What strikes me most about this piece is the use of suspended material as the backdrop for the projection. I've been wanting to play around with mixed media and projection so I am really excited about this project.
When I showed the rest of the group The Veiling they all agreed it was a strong piece to reference to. My research from here on will mostly be based around this piece.
I know that Bill Viola's work is featured at St Pauls Cathedral, so we've planned to visit on Monday (21st). This trip will be very useful for research and will hopefully spark up many more creative ideas.

11/11/16 Presenting our ideas
Today we presented our ideas to the rest of the course. I was happy with my idea but willing to look round to join another group.
I liked a lot of peoples idea's, mainly moving image and installation pieces.
I really liked Sunny's idea, she's planning on doing an installation piece which is exactly what I want to experiment with, I'm now in a group with Sunny, Gabie, Max, Aidan & Myself.
Things to research:

9/11/16 Idea summary (so far)
- Started my visual proposal
- Did more research on North Korea & their government
- Looked at existing installation pieces
- Looked at vegan protests - branding themselves to show animal cruelty http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3807626/Vegan-protesters-BRANDED-red-hot-irons-extreme-demonstration-demanding-end-meat-industry-France.html
- Credit card numbers/ Are we controlled by our money?
- Does money = identity?
- Do we buy our identity?
- JUSTIN BOWER - lots of inspo
Idea Summary:
I want to create an art installation piece, asking the question 'Does the government control our identities?'. I would like to use 3 screens or maybe old computer monitors, showing 3 people that have been stripped of their identity and replaced with numbers, as if they are just numbers in the system. I would like their expressions to be blank and the colours very bland. I'm thinking of projecting codes/numbers across their faces, or in the background, using layers.
Another idea I've had is to start with people black balaclavas on, with serial numbers on (see Black Mirror- White Bear). I want the people to rip the balaclavas off and reveal their true 'identities', with very angry and powerful expressions. As if they were about to revolt.
I want my piece to be simple but powerful, portraying a very strong message. I think my piece belongs in expanded media because I want to use mixed media to create it. I.e Still images, TV/computer monitors & projectors.
I want to create a piece that shows people taking back their identities (revolution).

North Korean Government
Potentially I could base my work on the North Korean government.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/apr/01/north-korea-announces-blocks-on-facebook-twitter-and-youtube
- Could use Korean/Korean looking people for my piece
- Use North Korean alphabet/numbers on the projection
- Project images/videos from North Korea as the background, marches, political announcements etc
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/apr/01/north-korea-announces-blocks-on-facebook-twitter-and-youtube
North Korea has officially announced it is blocking Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and South Korean websites in a bid to further control access to outside information. The new restrictions will make it more difficult for visitors or the small community of foreign residents in North Korea to post real-time information about the country to the outside world, and will further limit the ability of North Koreans with internet access to view information about their country posted elsewhere.
The government announcement named YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Voice of America and South Korean media sites as specific examples of what it is blocking “for a certain period of time.”It also said gambling and “sex and adult websites” have been blocked. Facebook and Twitter had been informally blocked for months and could not be accessed Friday in a web search from Pyongyang.
The announcement added that anyone who tries to hack onto such sites, access them in an “improper” way or distribute “anti-republic data” from them will be subject to punishment under North Korean law. It did not say what the punishment would be. The new North Korean restrictions are similar to censorship measures in neighbouring China, which allows more access in general but also maintains strict bans on sites that Beijing deems politically sensitive or harmful.
It is estimated that more than 2 million North Koreans now use mobile phones, but with few exceptions access to the internet is limited to officials, technicians or others who have special permission to use it, usually under close supervisionIn June last year, warnings began appearing on Instagram accounts in North Korea that claimed access to the popular photo-sharing app was being denied for “harmful content”. Access to other sites was also denied with a screen notification saying, “Warning! You can’t connect to this website because it’s in blacklist site.”

DOES THE GOVERNMENT DETERMINE OUR IDENTITY?? (idea 1) 8/11/16
ARE WE ALL JUST NUMBERS?
First brainstorming session - 7/11/16
First brainstorming session - 7/11/16
- Installation piece with numbers running across peoples faces
- Pictures of people with numbers on them- as if they have been grouped or branded
- Images of people being made up by codes
- Female & male codes - DNA codes
- Do the government own our identities?
- Conspiracy theories
- Are we more than just numbers in the system
- Farm animals are numbered
- Mass production, humans are mass producing
- Slaves used to have numbers & be branded
- Are we grouped by the letters on our national insurance number
- Modern day slaves
- Trackable by our phones, computers, post codes
- Geo tags
- Black mirror style
- The government listen to our phone calls, read our messages, track our social media etc
- Anti government
- IDENTITY THEFT
- Every person has a birth record, a death record, a work permit etc,
- We are all numbers and statistics
- At the end of the day we're all categorised into codes & categories
- Anti Capatalism vibe
- Anonymous
- Why does the government control us? theres more of 'us' then there is of 'them'?
- Illuminati
- Human robots
- Humans are cattle
There's a theory that the numbers at the end of our NI numbers (A,B,C,D) are the 4 groups that we will be split into if the world ends.

Brainstorming & research 7/11/16
After being set the project I have been thinking about interesting ways to represent 'Identity'.
Identity is the way we perceive and express ourselves. Factors and conditions that an individual is born with—such as ethnic heritage, sex, or one's body—often play a role in defining one's identity. However, many aspects of a person's identity change throughout his or her life.

Ideas & brain storming
- Gender identity, trans, LGBT, gender fluid, drag queens, sex is biological gender is performance
- Race, racism
- Religion !!! traditional costume, rituals,
- Online identity, catfish, chat rooms, grooming, codes (DNA?) to create a face, faces on computer monitors- glitching out
- Art installation- split screen of opposites
- Fake identity, fraud, double lives
- How people see you, rather than how you see urself
- How you put yourself out to people
- Sexism, equality, feminism
- Cults, gangs, cultural backgrounds
- 'finding yourself', teen/pre teen discoveries
- Mosiac of pictures, things that define people
- Stereotypes of women/men
- Who am I???
- National identity- country/cultural stereotypes
- National insurance numbers- are we all just numbers, does the government determine our identity

- Blurring the lines between both genders, males wearing makeup, women with shaved heads etc
