Installation set up

Went into studio 2 today to give our installation a test run.

I think its the perfect space for our installation, its got nice high ceilings a black curtain that can be pulled all the way around, blacking out the space completely.

Had lots of issues today with:

  • Projector- mine isn't strong enough. luckily we could borrow one from Sarah which had a very strong, clear picture- she said we can borrow it Thursday
  • Positioning- we moved the layers up and down loads of times to get the perfect height- want the first image to look as if Gaya is stood on the floor, makes it much more life like
  • Cloth falling off the railings - the light rigs had to be moved into the perfect position, we have decided to tie the material to the rigs so it won't slip off
  • Material blowing in the breeze- the studio has AC that we cant turn off, so we're going to create little holes and attach see through bits of string to the bottom so we can tie them down an prevent movement
Overall I'm happy with the set up we came up with today, the clarity of the image looks great and after lots of rearrangement we found the perfect heights/distances etc.

Slight Changes:

  • Pieces of material are now staggered upwards as the projection is diagonal
  • First layer is close to the floor to create a more life like image- Looks as if Gaya is actually stood there
  • Using LED's to light the floor as the studio is pitch black !!
  • Black cloth is used at the front rather than the white holographic material
  • Cloth needs to be tied to the floor because of AC

We also finally decided on the projects name:

Building

Super productive day today which Im so happy about!
All thats left now is filming next week and then I'm confident we'll be ready to present.
I'm extremely happy with our progress and how our project is looking at the moment and I think its going to be really successful.

We measured, cut down and sanded our wooden frames today.

We cut our pieces of wood down to 42inches, leaving 3 inches of spare wood out of the end of the layers to attach the wire. Sunny made 10 layers, looping the material along the top to create a 'tube' for the wood to go through. Next week we will glue the material to the wood so its secure and to prevent creases.

Props/costume

FIRST SHOT:

  • dummy
  • pig tails
  • teddy bear
  • lollipop?
  • juice box
  • drawn family photo
  • on the floor drawing - different levels/heights to play around with in post

  • tablet bottles
  • messy hair
  • rocking back and forth on the floor
THIRD SHOT
  • Photograph
  • lighter
  • A4 photo

Idea development - Sunny

Aim of our project: Dissociative identity disorder aims to highlight how people are creating new imaginary identities, hiding their true selves in the blind spot as these characters are controlling the individual due to repressed memories & traumas.
Instillation piece: Layers depicting the strongest personalities to the weakest. This depicts how sometimes the personalities come out very strong or very weak to an individual. Over a certain time period some of the personalities disappear (projection blurry) but some remain (projection clearest point) which is shown through the clarity of the image.
Projection image: -Starting from the eyes and zooms out till the end to see full body image of actor (Throughout this shot the actor will have a blunt facial expression) -The moving image will be disrupted by various images whilst the image is zooming out. -Disrupted images: we can use various objects like toys to represent the childhood memories and then we can get even more deeper representing various traumas.
Nosie Background noise- ambient but various voices disrupting the audio. (maybe muffled)

I really like this idea, especially the slow mo zoom out from extreme close up to full body shot, very slow & dramatic.

Gaya has said she will be happy to be in our project.
